THE LOOKBACK

5 factoids you might’ve missed

Look, I know it’s busy out there. Here are five college football things you might find interesting from the past week:

1) Ahead of last year’s game against Oregon, Colorado claimed, without much evidence, that the Ducks had illegally accessed its private football data. Initial investigations into the matter showed that no security was actually compromised and, ultimately, Colorado backed off. Hmmm…

2) Oklahoma’s Danny Stutsman is donating $50k of his own NIL earnings to each returning walk-on this season. You don’t need my commentary for this… here’s the video:

3) Charlotte will be without close to 50-percent of its starters against James Madison. Coach Biff Poggi gave himself “an F-minus” for getting “overzealous” in fall camp and pushing his team a little too hard. They won’t be fully healthy, in his estimation, until Week 4. Yikes.

4) Miami (Ohio)’s Chuck Martin is very much not a fan of modern technology in the game of football. My favorite quote: “All the technology, it’s smart by the technology people that sell it. But I hate all of it, so. I used to like when you had to coach … Used to have to make in-game adjustments, now the iPad will make ’em for you. Pretty soon there will be robots… We’ll have fake officials, fake players, fake coaches. It’ll be like playing NCAA 25.” You really owe it to yourself to watch this video:

5) Netflix dropped Untold: Sign Stealer, a documentary exploring the role of Connor Stalions within the Michigan football program. Reviews were mixed among college football talkers, ranging from “it was worth watching” to “I learned nothing new.” Shrug. Among the notable bullets: Stalions received a game ball from Jim Harbaugh for “deciphering signals” after a win over Iowa in 2022 and played coy about being disguised and on the sidelines of a Central Michigan game.
